
Novus-Classica Camerata
It all begins with an idea.
The Novus-classica Camerata (NCC) was founded in 2020, when covid-19 paralyzed the whole world, a group of young musicians in Shanghai decided to try their best to bring some vitality to the music industry during the epidemic.
NCC is devoted to pursue the sound that characterized by the chamber music style of ensemble playing and independent musical personalities. NCC’s repertoire ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary works, showing the NCC’s agility in crossing musical boundaries and pioneering spirits.
At the end of 2020, Jin Yukuang initiated the Novus-classica Camerata, aiming to actively participate in the gradual recovery of the music industry in the post-epidemic era from the perspective of young talents.
The Novus-Classica Camerata, debuted on January 8, 2021 with a program with chamber music works by Stravinsky and Copland.
On May 16, 2021, Novus-Classica Camerata performed with Ning Feng (1st prize in the Paganini Competition 2006) and Chen Yibai (2nd prize in the the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2022) at Yellow Lounge (Deutsche Grammophon) sponsored by Universal Music Group, Steinway and Volkswagen.
On July 23, 2021, Novus-Classica Camerata performed a Full-Chinese-Premiere concert with works by Reich, Vasks, Gorecki, Pärt and Glass at Music in the Summer Air Festival (MISA), Shanghai.
The concert finishes with the Chinese Premiere of Philip Glass Piano Concerto No.3.
October 2021, Novus-classica Camerata performed four concerts in Beijing Music Festival (BMF).
The highlight of the program was the Chinese Premiere of Stravinsky’s latest work: Four Preludes and Fugues from Bach - "Das Wohltemperierte Klavier".
February 2022 Jin Yukuang with his Novus-classica Camerata was awarded by Ganlan Art Award as the "New Artist of the Year".
Other musicians on this year’s list are Lang Lang, He Hui, Bruce Liu and so on.
On July 22, 202, Novus-Classica Camerata was invited back at Music in the Summer Air Festival (MISA), Shanghai for the second time, performing works of Alfred Schnittke, Ottorino Respighi and Max Richter.
In this concert Jin Yukuang showed up as the harpsichord/arranger/conductor of the concert.
Hangzhou International Music Festival
Novus-Classica Camerata was invited to tour the Hangzhou Music Festival in April 2023. They brought a vibrant performance of european early music interpreted by young chinese musicians to the Hangzhou audience.
During the interpretation of Vitali's Chaconne, arranged by Respighi, they used a real organ - which received positive feedback from the Hangzhou media.
Subscription Concert in Shanghai Concert Hall
Novus-Classica Camerata joined the Shanghai Music Hall‘s 2023/24 season on April 30, 2023, inviting the former principal timpanist of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia as the conductor/timpanist to perform a special concert of early music by composers such as Telemann, Vitali and Purcell.
With Award Winning Violinist Ruifeng Lin
July 7.22-23, 2023, Novus-Classica Camerata and the famous violinist Ruifeng Lin performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4 and Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence" at the Church Music Hall, a landmark building in Shanghai.
Touring with Ning Feng
In September 2023, Novus-Classica Camerata toured China with the world-renowned violinist and first prize winner of the Paganini Violin Competition, Ning Feng.
They performed Vivaldi and Piazzolla's "The Four Seasons" and gave the Chinese premiere of a work by Schnittke.
Shanghai Contemporary Music Fesitival 2022/2023
Novus-Classica Camerata was invited to perform at one of China's most famous contemporary music festivals, the Shanghai Contemporary Music Festival, in both 2022 and 2023.
This year’s festival featured renowned composers Magnus Lindberg and Qigang Chen as resident composers. Magnus Lindberg attended the concert and highly praised Yukuang Jin and the Novus-Classica Camerata.
Finale Concert of Beijing Music Festival (BMF) 2023
On October 15, 2023, Novus-Classica Camerata was invited to perform at the closing ceremony of the famous Beijing International Music Festival. In collaboration with the Mahler Foundation, and with the support of Marina Mahler and Martin Campbell-White, presented Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, which received enthusiastic response in Beijing.
